Born in 1983 in China and graduated from Shandong University of Art & Design, Xiang Hao now lives and works between Shanghai and Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. In his artistic process, he deliberately challenges his self-expression, avoiding excessive proficiency to render each of his works unique. The Chinese adage “Fire cannot be wrapped in paper,” underscores this collection of works by artist Xiang Hao. That truth cannot be controlled, as the saying implies, also epitomizes what drove Xiang to pursue art full-time since 2017. This saying also gives free rein to Xiang’s creative process. The media he uses, from ink to burned marks to acrylic on canvas to Chinese Xuan paper, depend on how vital they are to visualizing his evolving concepts. “I wonder what will come out when I’m trying to control something (fire) that is not easy to control,” said Xiang Hao in a China Daily media profile.
